🌿 Learning Beyond the Classroom—Nature and Culture as the Best Teachers. 11th-grade students from Calvin Christian High School embarked on a study tour to Lombok as part of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) under the theme Sustainable Living.

This journey was designed to provide students with firsthand experiences of how sustainability values are integrated into the daily lives of local communities. By exploring Lombok’s cultural and natural sites, students not only broadened their horizons but also developed a deeper awareness of environmental and cultural stewardship.

Weaving Cultural Heritage in Sukarara Village

The tour began in Sukarara Village, known for its traditional Lombok weaving. Here, students learned how handwoven fabric is made—from spinning thread to using natural dyes. They realized that behind each strand lies patience, dedication, and cultural preservation, passed down through generations.

Immersing in Tradition at Sade Village

At Sade Village, students interacted directly with the Sasak people, who still uphold a traditional lifestyle. From the architecture of their traditional houses to their social systems rooted in mutual cooperation and simplicity, students were shown how local culture can exist in harmony with nature.

Exploring Nature: Gili Trawangan & Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Lombok’s natural beauty also played a key role in this educational journey. On Gili Trawangan, students witnessed how responsible tourism management helps preserve marine ecosystems. The trip to Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls, located at the foot of Mount Rinjani, offered a reflective moment to admire the grandeur of God’s creation and the importance of environmental conservation.

Dialogues with Local Communities

Throughout the journey, students engaged in conversations with locals about sustainable living practices. These discussions opened their eyes to how simple living and wise resource use are real-life applications of Pancasila values—especially responsibility and love for the homeland.

💡 More than just a sightseeing trip, this activity became a platform to renew the mind, shape the heart, and instill responsibility as future leaders of the nation.

May this journey be a memorable and inspiring experience for the students of SMA Kristen Calvin!
